LOTOTO.digital: proven technology adapted to your process
We start with your procedure, not with the software. The technology already exists and has been proven in a live operation. During implementation we configure it to respect the rules, roles and documents your site actually uses.
The technology exists. We configure it to your procedure.
What is LOTOTO.digital?
Short answerLOTOTO.digital is DANUBE DIGITAL’s solution for digitalising LOTO and LOTOTO processes in industrial operations. It consists of a web application and a service through which we adapt it to a specific process.
Before work on a machine begins, maintenance needs reliable answers. Is the right equipment identified? Which energies must be isolated? Who carried out each step? Who is still working on the equipment, and when can it go back into service? When this information is split between a paper permit, a spreadsheet, a phone call and people’s experience, checking it takes time and careful coordination.
LOTOTO.digital brings it into one place and makes each next step depend on recorded confirmations. It is not a boxed product with one fixed workflow. It is technology we configure around the way you work. The wider picture is on the digital LOTOTO page.
Which parts of the LOTOTO process can we digitalise?
Short answerPermits to work, lockout tracking energy by energy, roles and authorisations, multiple work groups, the audit trail and, as a service, your existing work instructions.
Can the system be adapted to our existing LOTOTO process?
Short answerYes – that is the core of our approach. We configure the workflow, roles, approvals and documents to the rules of your site, not the other way round.
Every site answers the same questions differently. During implementation we go through these points with you:
- Who requests a lockout and who prepares the permit.
- Who isolates each type of energy and who is allowed to – for example, an electrician only electrical energy.
- Who applies the tag and how tagging is recorded.
- Who approves, and in what order.
- Authorisations by equipment or area – who may approve which equipment.
- Handover of a key, lock or tag – whether and how to record it.
- Work groups – how they join a lockout and who is responsible for them.
- Substitution – who may take over a step for an absent colleague.
- Handover of work at shift change.
- Tryout – how verification of isolation fits into the workflow.
- Documents – form templates for high-risk work and attaching completed documents.
- Equipment identification – your existing identifiers, technical tags or group standard; no need to renumber equipment.
Tryout is always part of LOTOTO. How it is recorded and built into the digital workflow is something we design around the rules of each site. The same applies to roles and authorisations: the set-up from an existing deployment is a starting point, not a mandatory scheme.
What is proven in live operation today?
Short answerThe core of the LOTOTO process is implemented in the application and used in a live operation – from the equipment register and energy-by-energy lockout to the archive and audit log.
How multiple work groups operate and how a group joins a lockout is explained on the group lockout page. The application sends in-app and email notifications, for example for a new request or an approval.
ReadGroup lockoutWhat can we add to meet your requirements?
Short answerDepending on the process and the site’s requirements, the solution can be extended. These parts are not included in today’s deployment; we design them during implementation.
- Recording Tryout as a separate step – person, time, isolation point and result, following your rules.
- Digital work instructions – existing paper and PDF procedures turned into interactive steps, as a tailored service.
- Identifying workers with RFID cards, based on the card system you already use.
- Kiosk stations on the shop floor for workers without their own device.
- Recording the handover of a key, lock or tag.
- Digital forms and documents – filling in, pre-filled data, electronic approval and archiving directly in the application instead of attaching scanned PDFs. See digital forms.
We define the scope of any extension after analysing the process. They are not offered as ready-made modules.
How does implementation work?
Short answerStep by step: from analysing your existing process, through checking data and configuring the workflow, to a pilot in a selected area and roll-out.
- Analysis of the existing processWe go through your LOTOTO procedure, permits, roles and the documentation you use today.
- Equipment register reviewWe check the equipment register, energy types and links to isolation points. Tracking is only as good as this data.
- Roles, authorisations and workflowWe set who requests, approves and carries out each step, and for which equipment or areas.
- Pilot in a selected areaWe test the solution in practice in a smaller part of the site and refine it based on people’s experience.
- Operation and roll-outWe agree a procedure for when the system is unavailable, train users and extend the solution to further areas.
Implementation also includes checking connectivity where the system is used. The procedure for system unavailability must be clear before go-live.
How is the system used on site?
Short answerIn a web browser on a PC, tablet or phone, with nothing to install. Equipment is selected by scanning its QR label, and active lockouts can be shown on a wall display.
The choice between phone, computer and kiosk depends on working conditions and how people move around the site. On a shared kiosk, every operation must be clearly attributed to a specific user and each session must be closed. Neither a QR code nor an RFID card confirms that isolation has been carried out – they only make it easier to reach the right record or account. More on the QR work instructions page.
Where does the system run?
Short answerWherever your requirements for availability, administration and security dictate. One option is a server on site at the plant, with remote access via VPN.
We choose the set-up together with your IT team. What matters is where the data should be stored, who administers the system and from where workers need to reach it.
What does digital LOTOTO not replace?
Experience from a live operation

LOTOTO in industrial practice
We digitalised the LOTOTO process at the Danucem cement plant. We now bring that experience from a real operation, especially in coordinating work groups, isolating each energy separately and handling substitutions, to other sites.
Frequently asked questions
Do we have to change our LOTOTO procedure to use the system?
No. We start from the procedure you have approved. If the analysis reveals unclear points, such as an unclear split of responsibilities, we go through them with you – but the decision stays with you.
Can we start with just one area of the site?
Yes, and we recommend it. A pilot in a selected area lets you check the configuration in practice before rolling it out across the plant.
Do workers need to install an app on their phones?
No. The application runs in a web browser on a computer, tablet or phone.
Can we use our own forms for high-risk work?
Yes. An administrator uploads your form templates, and completed documents are attached to the lockout record, where they remain in the archive.
What happens if the system is temporarily unavailable?
A procedure for system unavailability is part of implementation and is agreed according to your rules before go-live. Physical lockout and tagout do not depend on the software being available.
